Simmons Hall Interim Party Policy
This document outlines Simmons Hall's interim party policy until a permanent policy can be established. This policy may be changed in the interim to reflect the needs of the House with consent of the acting Simmons Hall Steering Committee. The permanent policy will be established by the House at or after the second House meeting.
In general and most importantly, respect your neighbors and your community. Residents operate on different schedules. Some residents have early morning classes or jobs that start at 7AM. This policy is designed to protect the rights and safety of all Simmons Hall Residents. If you have any questions about this policy, please contact the Simmons Hall Judicial Committee or the House President.
- Parties may only be held in rooms and lounges that are not under construction.
- All Parties must have exactly one host, who must be a resident of Simmons Hall. The host must be defined prior to holding the party.
- Before throwing a party, the host must define the party's location and must obtain the consent of the neighbors in the vicinity of the party location. The vicinity of the party includes the entire hallway in which the party is taking place and all rooms that share walls with the party location (for atriums, this may include rooms on multiple floors).
- The host must let the Judicial Committee know about the party and can not hold it until they receive the Committee's approval.
- The host must notify the floor tutor closest to the party location in advance of the party.
- The host is responsible for restricting party participants to invited guests.
- Any drifting into areas outside of the approved party location is unacceptable. It is the host's responsibility to insure that this does not occur.
- The host is responsible for clean up and must restore any public spaces to the state they were in prior to the party.
- The host is financially responsibly for any damage that occurs to house property and the private property of other residents.
- Regarding alcohol, the host will be responsible for following MIT's guidelines, including, if required, registering the party with MIT. You can find more information at http://web.mit.edu/alcohol/www/.
Parties found to be in violation of this policy will be immediately dispersed and all non-residents will be removed from the building. Disciplinary action will be handled by the process outlined in the Uniform Judicial Code.
